Climate Change
Learning about climate change is very important for our future. It helps children understand how to care for the world around them and prepares them for the jobs of tomorrow. As new green technologies are developed, exciting new industries and careers are being created across many areas of work. By learning about the environment now, children gain the knowledge and skills they need to take part in these opportunities and help build a better, more sustainable future. We are proud to have Green Flag Status as an Eco School.
Our Conservation Curriculum
At Kells Lane Primary School, our children learn how to care for the environment, live sustainably and take action to protect our planet.
Early Years The basics of reusing and recycling products: – Reception Reuse and Recycle
Year 1 How waste collection has changed overtime, from horse-drawn carts to our modern waste disposal vehicles.
Year 2 The importance of protecting our coastline and the issues with plastic pollution
Year 3 Why rainforests matter and to sustain them: – Under the Canopy
Year 4 Global conservation issues – water waste in Brazil, tourism problems in Venice and wildlife issues in Scotland
Year 5 Local area initiatives and local industry. Renewable energy such as world’s largest offshore wind farm project based in North East Dogger Bank Wind Farm
Year 6 Global and local issues linked to biodegradable products and how we have an impact on our climate: – Global Warning
In School Changemakers- Improving our Climate Footprint
Eco-friendly pens have been rolled out across the school by the Eco-Committee.
The Glue Crew work across the school to champion sustainability through reusable, refillable glue stick. Reuse-Refill-Rethink
Across the school, the Eco-Committee is leading a plastic lid collection to create furniture. School-Cycle
Our Community & Global Impact
Community links are vital in helping children understand that learning extends beyond the classroom and that they are part of a wider community. By engaging with their local area, children develop a sense of belonging, responsibility, and respect for others, while building real-life skills such as communication, empathy and teamwork. These experiences support social, moral, and cultural development and help children understand their role in society and their place in the world.
Litter picking in the local area, which teaches children about environmental responsibility and caring for shared spaces.
Visiting local businesses helping children learn how their community works, explore different jobs, and see how businesses contribute to everyday life.
